1. The birthday card
The message behind my birthday card it is a nice and sweet melody that says... relax, be happy, enjoy your day..
I tried to follow the ‘’rock on’’ birthday card...that’s why you see i putted our traditional guitar called in our language ‘’Inanga’’. The message it’s a sweet a melody because every single melody that come out from Inanga is very sweet. As you will see i tried to design a simple an classic birthday card..but trust me is not so simple as it looks like.

- I created a new file size(23 cm x 21 cm)
- I pasted my sketched birthday card on my page so that it will help to design it by illustrator.
- I drew the ‘’Inanga’’ following the one i sketched. I used the pen tool and the line segment tool i also applied an effect on it which is Unsharpen Mask. I wanted the Inanga to come a little bit out of the design, to be eminent.
- I drew the emotions around my Inanga. I used the Pencil Tool then i applied to the emotional lines a gradient (type: radial) yellow orange as you can see the image below.
- I drew the music symbols also using the Pen tool. I just wanted to show that Inanga it’s a music instrument also that the melody comes from the Inanga. Also i putted some music notes around in different position ...so that it will represent joy celebration... to change the position of each music note i used the Select Tool then i rotated them. You can see it on the image below.
- Then i drew the background. i used the Rectangle Tool. As u will see on the image below i applied to the rectangle which is the background a nice light orange yellow gradient (type: radial). I really like those colors..For me they mean happiness, joy, good souvenirs....actually that’s why i used those colors...because a birthday it’s happy day anyway it supposed to be a happy day.
- Then i typed the message which is ‘’have a melodic birthday’’. i decided to chose that because the whole birthday it’s about melody music..happiness... the tool i used to type the text is The Type Tool and the Font is ‘‘Windsong’’
- Also i applied an effect on the text which is a shadow because i wanted the text to keep the mood of celebration and to be fusion with design then i applied an effect on the text which is a shadow because i wanted the text to keep the mood of celebration and to be fusion with design
- I used that font because that font is among the fonts approach the hand writing. Then my birthday card will have some traditional aspects.
1. The Text
.Creating the background of the text
- I drew a rectangle using The Rectangle tool then i filled it with a orange white gradient (type: linear). I wanted to keep a bit the same colors which mean joy and happiness.
- I drew a kind of wave, first i used the Pen tool to draw the lines then i applied to them the Blend Tool then i reduced the shape (wave) transparency to 9% so that’s how it became like this. Doing this i tried to put some energy and movement to my background.
- I drew some shapes if i can say shapes to add some perspective to my background. I used different Brush Tools.... then i reduced the transparency to 9%.
- And then i typed my the birthday text using a font called ‘’Windsong” i also applied an effect on it(shadow). I used that font because is the one which approach the hand writing. Then my card will have some traditional aspects.
